Info session in Barriere on service options for youth with special needs

A discussion and information session will be held in Barriere on Monday, June 17, regarding service options for children and youth with special needs including autism spectrum residing in the Barriere area.The event will be taking place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Ridge, 4936 Barriere Town Road.
Yellowhead Community Services will be hosting this information session and discussion, and is inviting parents, family members and caregivers to engage in conversation about services for children and youth with special needs including those on the autism spectrum.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences.
During the session, Registered Behavioural Consultant Cheryl Scaife from Stepping Stones will giving a brief presentation on behaviour support. The remainder of the session will focus on group discussion and feedback from parents and caregivers.
Those planning to attend are asked to think about the following questions before you come to the session as your input would be very much appreciated;
As a parent/caregiver what would you like to see offered locally in the community?
What type of services would you be interested in accessing if they were available such as a social skills groups, life skills development, behaviour consultant services, a behavioural interventionist, a parent support group, or other suggestions?
On-site child care may be offered at no cost to families/caregivers, however you must pre-register for child care by Thursday, June 13, by calling the YCS Barriere office at 250-672- 9773.
